From Gorenjska to Primorska by Train

Jesenice (or Bled)–Bohinj–Kanal ob Soči–Goriška Brda–Jesenice (or Bled)

The steam train will depart from Jesenice or Bled and head through the tunnel in the central Alps towards Kanal in the Soča Valley. The two-hour journey offers astonishing vistas of deep gorges and high mountain tops. From Kanal we will continue by bus along the course of the Soča river past the villages of Anhovo and Plave to Goriška Brda, the wine-growing region close to the Italian border. We will enjoy views of picturesque villages, vineyards and orchards. On our way to Dobrovo, the centre of Goriška Brda, we will stop at a scenic lookout tower for a 360-degree view of the region. In clear weather, the Vipava valley, the Karst plateau and Julian Alps as well as Italian Friuli and the Dolomites can be seen. After lunch in Dobrovo, we will visit the largest wine cellar in the region and spend some time in the wine shop. A short bus trip will get us to Nova Gorica, a young city located on the Slovene-Italian border. We will board the train and start our return journey towards Jesenice (or Bled).

Please note: Since the train only rides on selected days, a reservation is required in advance. For an extra charge, a bus transfer to Jesenice (or Bled) and back can be organized.
