Ljubljana City Walk

Republic Square–Congress Square–Prešeren Square–Cathedral–Town Square–Ljubljana Castle

We will start the tour in Republic Square in front of the Slovenian parliament building and continue to Congress Square to see the Ursuline Church, the Philharmonic and the University buildings.

Heading for the Ljubljanica embankment, we can walk past the University Library and then continue to the social hub of the city, the Prešeren Square, named after Slovenia’s greatest poet. We will visit the Franciscan church, attached to which is the Franciscan monastery with a garden. We will then cross the Ljubljanica river over the Tromostovje, a triple bridge connecting the two embankments; this unique architectural feature of Ljubljana was designed by the architect Jože Plečnik.

We will proceed to the market place, enter the Cathedral of St. Nicholas and continue to Town Square to see the late 15th-century Town Hall. After that we will take the funicular or catch the tourist sightseeing train heading for the Castle Hill. Having seen the panoramic view of the city, we will return to Prešeren Square. From here it is also possible to catch a boat on the Ljubljanica river.

DID YOU KNOW ...
... that the official symbol of Ljubljana is the dragon which, according to legend, was killed by the Ancient Greek hero Jason and his Argonauts on their way through the Ljubljana marshes?
