Prekmurje

Ižakovci–Filovci–Bogojina–Selo–Murska Sobota

Our bus will head towards the East of Slovenia. In Ižakovci we will stop at the Island of Love in the Mura and look into a genuine, still operating floating flour mill. After seeing a local museum, we will experience a “brod” ride (a vessel built for crossing a river where there is no bridge). The tour will continue to a pottery workshop in Filovci, where there will also be a chance to buy their products. In neighbouring Bogojina, we will enter an unusual church designed by Jože Plečnik, which is ornamented with locally produced craftwork, particularly pottery. After a local lunch, we will continue to Selo to see the Rotunda, an interesting example of romanesque architecture. On the way back, we will make a brief stop in Murska Sobota.

DID YOU KNOW ...
… that the most famous Prekmurje pastry is the Prekmurje layer cake (prekmurska gibanica)? With at least four different layers – cottage cheese, poppy seed, walnut and apple filling, it is a high energy treat.
