| Slovenia’s
Castles
Žužemberk–Otočec–Brežice–Sevnica–Celje–Ljubljana–Škofja
Loka–Bled–Ljubljana
Day 1: The first place we
visit will be 13th-century Žužemberk Castle, with a
magnificent view of Krka. We will proceed to Novo mesto for a
brief stop in the centre. Otočec is the only castle in Slovenia
located on an island. We will tour the castle and the park, and
attend the castle banquet. An overnight stay in the spa centre
of Šmarješke Toplice will offer plenty of relaxation
opportunities.
Day 2: Morning departure
to Brežice Castle with a masterfully decorated Knights’ Hall.
After passing Reicheinberg, the oldest castle mentioned in
documents (as early as 895), we will stop briefly at the 10th-cenutry
Sevnica Castle. We’ll have lunch before continuing to Celje
Castle, once owned by the famous Counts of Celje. Some free time
in the centre of Celje, and then on our way to Ljubljana, we
will stop in Trojane to try a typical dessert – the Trojane
doughnut. Dinner and overnight in Ljubljana.
Day 3: A visit to the
13th-century Škofja Loka Castle will allow us to view a rich
museum collection. This will be followed by a stop in Bled
Castle, with a magnificent view of Lake Bled and its fairy tale
island. After trying the traditional “kremšnita” pastry, we
will visit the island by “pletna”, a traditional lake boat.
On the return, free time in Ljubljana, dinner and overnight.
Day 4: After breakfast a
stroll through the Ljubljana old town and a visit to Ljubljana
Castle. End of tour after lunch. |
