Technical Museum of Slovenia and the Coast

Vrhnika–Bistra–Piran–Portorož

Not far from Vrhnika, an elegant 19th-century chateau – a former Carthusian Monastery in Bistra – houses the Technical Museum of Slovenia. It features numerous collections – from agriculture, transport, forestry, wood processing and electrical engineering to hunting, fishing and printing. One of the highlights is the collection of cars that belonged to former Yugoslav president Tito. After the visit, we will proceed to Primorska and take a panoramic boat ride along the Slovenian coast. The crew will offer a meal before the tour ends. When back ashore, we will do a walking tour in the old harbour town of Piran including Tartini Square and a visit to the Aquarium, which houses around 200 inhabitants from the underwater world. We will conclude the excursion with a short stop in Portorož, Slovenia’s best known seaside resort.

DID YOU KNOW ...
… that the monastery in Bistra, founded in 1255, was one of the four estates of the Carthusian order on Slovene territory? The other three were in Žiče (founded in 1160), Jurklošter (1170) and Pleterje (1407).
